Yesterday, Logan spoke a little about our Peachtree Pennant top 30 Braves prospect list, specifically, the guys at the bottom five spots of the list. I’ll be discussing the next five players in this article.

#25- Jean Carlos Encarnacíon

Signed out of the Dominican Republic, Encarnacíon represents one of the higher-ceiling prospects remaining after the great purge of players acquired during the Coppolella/Hart period from the International market. He is a 6’3, 195lbs, 20 year old third baseman who could possibly be in a much higher position on this list in a couple of years. When he first arrived, coaches played Encarnacíon at both 1B and 3B, but his athleticism easily keeps him at the hot corner. The earliest reports of him at the plate are near glowing, many citing the small sample size but the tendency he had for contact, and HARD contact at that… His bat speed is pretty exceptional for a young kid in his position without having seen pro ball pitching before he joined Atlanta. He had a slashline of .337/.363/.561 last season, which, although not the best numbers in rookie ball, are very solid. If he adds some mass to his lanky frame, Encarnacíon could be a real player to watch as he rises through the system at a premium position with high expectations from his organization at that point, maybe as soon as 2020.

I'm a 4th generation Braves fan from the metro-Atlanta area. I live for the crack of the bat in spring and weep at the last out of the world series...ok that's a little much. Happily married. Professional musician. Georgia Boy. Christ follower. Oh, and I write about the Braves and stuff.
