It was a thrilling day across the state as four ballparks hosted GHSA state championships — and two teams were crowned champions with two series still left undecided. Here’s a look at your scoreboard for day one of the GHSA state championships. The remaining four title series will start tomorrow with potential game threes taking place on Wednesday.

AA: Benedictine vs. Berrien – Savannah

Game 1: Benedictine 6, Berrien 3

Game 2: Benedictine 3, Berrien 0

Benedictine took down Berrien in timely fashion in two games at Grayson Stadium, 6-3 in game one and a 3-0 shutout in game two, to claim the first state championship of 2018.

AAA: Westminister vs. Lovett – Macon

Game 1: Westminister 6, Lovett 2

Game 2: Lovett 7, Westminister 6

Lovett fought for their lives in game two and came away with a hard fought victory. Should they prevail Wednesday, they’ll look back at their effort in game two — which included an epic 6-run sixth inning and a clutch go-ahead seventh inning hit to regain the lead. Game three Wednesday at OrthoGeorgia Park. Time TBA.

AAAA: Cartersville vs. Jefferson – Rome

Game 1: Jefferson 5, Cartersville 4

Game 2: Cartersville 9, Jefferson 3

Jefferson clung to a win in game one — and it’s a good thing, because game two would not go their way. It all comes down to Wednesday for these two teams in a class that’s seen some big upsets as of late. Game three will take place at State Mutual Stadium on Wednesday. Time TBA.

AAAAA: Loganville vs. Buford – Athens

Game 1: Loganville 13, Buford 3

Game 2: Loganville 3, Buford 2

Game one was a blowout, but Buford made it close in game two. Nonetheless, they’d fall 3-2 and Loganville would officially become back-to-back state champions in class 5A after downing the Wolves and going a perfect 10-0 in the state playoffs. They remain undefeated since late March and are one of the hottest teams in the nation.
